Step 2

the bag and the movement…
I spent years sorting through organic cotton, post-consumer hemp, recycled bottle bags, etc… looking for the perfect reusable shopping tote. In the end, I found this bag to be ideal for the project because it is extremely inexpensive and very practical.
The bag holds over 35 lbs of groceries, folds up into a very compact size and uses minimal manufacturing material. When used for its lifetime, it offsets the production of 520 conventional paper and plastic bags (for more bag info checkout “Bag Info” in the Literature pack).
The Green Bag Project is a 501 (c)(4) non-profit and C.I.C. with two very specific goals: to stop the use of non-reusable paper and plastic bags and to encourage people to think critically about how their everyday actions affect the environment. By starting a bag project, you are drawing awareness to these issues and providing a catalyst for change.
Each bag you distribute comes with a pledge and a handshake. People can only receive the bag if they take this pledge to no longer use non-reusable paper or plastic. The handshake symbolises their commitment to changing their lifestyle.
